When I was in hi...What memories all the way around. When I was in high school, I was in our local CLO's production of 'Gypsy.' I played Tulsa. I think in the entire history of productions of 'Gypsy', I was the only non-tap dancing Tulsa there was. I couldn't dance (still can't) but I sang the hell out of it (still do). I remember reading some Broadway book where it was recounted that in Merman's dressing room after the opening night of 'Gypsy', her long time manager came to her and said, "You never told me you could act!!!" I kick myself to this day for not seeing Lansbury in the role when I could have. Some critic remarked that when Merman did 'Roses's Turn' it gave you chills but when Lansbury did it, it brought on tears.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
