Happy August 24th, 2017!
It is a gorgeous day here in New York. Today is the 236th day of the year. There are 129 days remaining until the end of the year.
SAD NEWS: Actor Jay Thomas, whose most famous roles include that of TV talk show host Jerry Gold on “Murphy Brown” (for which he won two Emmy Awards) and hockey player Eddie LeBec on “Cheers,” has died. He was 69.
Cherish EVERY MOMENT!
My Horoscope Tells Me that news of an unexpected career break could come my way! I'm READY!
The 'WORD for the day is INVIGORATE . Think of this word as your mantra for the day. First apply the word to yourself, THEN apply this word to EVERYONE YOU meet. Think of this word as you respond to EVERY POST you see throughout the day. The 'word 'for TODAY is INVIGORATE . Please pay it forward...
As I sat down to begin my blog today, I was listening to That's All. I've included Michael Buble's version here, but I'm sorry but I don't recognize who the singer is.
I've been thinking a lot lately about transitions and trying to remain and stay in the moment. Right now, August is dwindling down. And with that, the end of summer. I've had 'moments' of summer; a boat road, a barbeque, a trip to the Botanical Gardens, but that's it!
I'm secretly thrilled about the prospect of tossing out my schedule and simply starting over from scratch. I had worked myself into a corner by putting so much on my calendar that the slightest deviation could
bring it all down like a house of cards. Nevertheless, once you had a clean slate, you still needed to recreate the series on a bigger and better scale and I think I am succeeding. You, my audiences, however will be the ultimate decider. THIS is just the beginning!
I took off, for the most part, from performing this summer. My producer, Russ Woolley, God Bless Him!, said that if I desired to keep my series, Richard Skipper Celebrates..., going through the summer, he would support me, but it might be a good time to take a break. He was right!
The truth of the matter is that it has just been a chance to regroup. I'm very excited about the direction everything is going in and I feel that this next season is going to be even more successful than
this past season....which is saying a lot because I have shared the stage with some of the best artists around. Those artists are both on stage and behind. As our TRUE POTUS said, 'it truly does take a village'!
Let's start with the cast! I have Ann Dawson, Emily McNamara, Ben Rimalower, and a MUCH BELOVED award winning entertainer as our Mystery Guest. Please add to that mix three top notch musicians Rex Benincasa on percussion, Jeff Carney on bass, under the direction of musical director Rich Siegel.
We will be celebrating milestones of September 10th. I hope you'll join us!
September 10 is the 253rd day of the year. While we are waiting to get there, please go out and support the artists you read about in this blog. This is a New feature called Richard's Roundup, celebrating the best in Entertainment. Thank you, Russ Woolley for the name AND the suggestion!
On Thursday, August 31, Oliver Conant (co-writer/director) and Justyna Kostek (co-writer/star) will host the world premiere of the one-woman tour-de-force musical, Dietrich Rides Again, about the life and times of Marlene Dietrich. Playing for three weeks through Sunday, September 17 at The Medicine Show Theatre (549 West 52 Street – between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues), the show is choreographed by Madeline Jaye. Musical direction and arrangements are by Jono Mainelli. Miss Kostek’s costumes are by Derek Nye Lockwood. Read more HERE.
