It's My Birthday...and I'll Sing If I Want To!
Happy February 11th, 2016!
55 years ago today, I made my debut. I was born at 12:55 AM in Conway, South Carolina. Notice those double fives. I've always considered five a lucky number. I arrived on the 5th of August in 1979, a birth, of sorts. I would have come in May 1979 if I wasn't still in school.
I look forward to the next 55 years! I have seen a lot in my lifetime, especially over the past 37 years.
At 55,I have enough wisdom to claim experience without thinking I know it all.
I am "senior" without feeling like a senior citizen. I can get discounts at some movie theaters depending on how honest I are about my age.
I was born on a Saturday to Richard Hampton
and Wilmina Skipper, their first.
The US president was John F. Kennedy (Democratic). In that special week of February people in US were listening to Will You Love Me Tomorrow? by The Shirelles. In UK Are You Lonesome Tonight? by Elvis Presley was in the top 5 hits. Gold of the Seven Saints, directed by Gordon Douglas, was one of the most viewed movies released in 1961 while Advise And Consent by Allen Drury was one of the best selling books.
Happy Birthday to Carey Lowell February 11th 1961 as well! She has been a credited actor since the 1989 film Licence to Kill.
Most Baby Boomers who have already reached the benchmark of 55 years of age are not yet aware of the myriad of age 55 perks we can take advantage of. Asking for our “senior” discount doesn’t mean we are on our last legs. It means that we have experienced a rite of passage that allows us to meet our daily needs and enjoy many cultural and recreational activities at great lower prices!
Nelson Mandela was released from prison after 27 years On This Day in 1990.
Leslie Nielsen would've turned 90 On This Day.

With some ingenuity and a power-house marketer, a plastic that was originally made for the military became a kitchen staple. Earl Tupper was the creator of Tupperware but a young divorced mother from Detroit, Michigan came up with the marketing plan that made Tupperware legendary.
Max Baer was born on this date in 1909. Same year, 1909 – Joseph L. Mankiewicz, director, producer, and screenwriter (d. 1993). Mankiewicz has a distinction that MIGHT be matched this year. If Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu Oscar this year, he will become the first back-to-back Oscar winner in the best director category since Joseph L. Mankiewicz in 1950, and only third filmmaker to turn the trick overall. (John Ford was the other back-to-back winner.)

Gabor was successful as an actress in film, on Broadway and on television. She was also a successful businessperson, marketing wigs, clothing and beauty products. Her elder sisters, Zsa Zsa and Magda Gabor, were also actresses and socialites.

Laughter is much more important than applause. Applause is almost a duty. Laughter is a reward.
