Happy Holly Daze: Jennifer Roberts, Haley Swindal, Pamela Hunt...and MORE!

You build up a head of steam. If you are four days out of the studio, on the fifth day you really crash
in there. You will kill anybody who disturbs you on that fifth day, when you desperately need it.
-Susan Rothenberg

Happy Black Friday! November 23rd, 2018!
November 23 is the 327th day of the year. There are 38 days remaining until the end of the year. It is 28 degrees here in Sparkill and as I sit down to begin my blog today, I'm listening to the 70s on Sirius XM Radio. THAT is the way to kick start my day.
It’s Thanksgiving weekend, but you may not feel like you have much to be thankful for at the moment. It’s been a pretty intense fall season. From market volatility to devastating wildfires, it can be difficult to focus on gratitude.  However, as most of us know from our careers: what you track improves. So, by focusing on the all good in your life and on the future that inspires you, you will tap into a sense of power and gratitude.
That’s my advice to you this holiday season. The Holly Daze are here and I desire to take this moment to thank you and all the Richard Skipper Celebrates supporters who make my work possible.

Life is meaningless without relationships.
Today is Maize Day! Fibonacci Day is  also being observed today! It has always been observed annually on November 23rd. after Thanksgiving. And in honor of Black Friday and Maize Day, I am celebrating some great artists who have events going on around town in the coming days and weeks. Looking for the perfect gift this year? Treat a friend to a show and you have 12 months to spread the wealth in order to not break the bank.
Annie Golden will star in The Enchanted Cottage.

If you are a friend or someone who follows me, you know that I'm all about celebrating and some of the artists in today's blog are also celebrating.

Richard Holbrook
Richard Holbrook's holiday show this season. RICHARD HOLBROOK: THE MANY MOODS OF CHRISTMAS: THROUGH A CHILD'S EYES will be presented in the small brick room at Don't Tell Mama on Sunday December 2, 2018 at 8:30 P.M. Richard will be accompanied by his fantastic triad of musicians - The Tom Nelson Trio - Tom Nelson, pianist /musical director; Tom Kirchmer, bassist; and Peter Grant, drummer.

On December 3rd, Nancy McGraw will be at The Beach Cafe. She will be accompanied by Mark Nadler. I will also be there cheering her on.

Singer Jennifer Roberts returns to Manhattan to toast legendary Broadway lyricist and composer Sheldon Harnick with a tribute show celebrating his impressive body of work.
Jennifer will be joined in the special performance at New York hotspot "PANGEA" by musical director Jon Weber and bassist Steve Doyle.
Directed by Lance Roberts, the show will feature hits from Harnick's greatest and most-popular shows, including Fiddler On The Roof and She Loves Me. Jennifer also promises "several hidden gems" of rarely/if ever heard songs by the three-time Tony Award winner, with spectacular arrangements by Tedd Firth in varied styles, "jazz-infused, a little blues and more." "Mr. Harnick supplied three of the songs himself, that were either never in print or out of print," Jennifer noted, while a friend of the composer's provided a rarely-heard number from Harnick's "Hidden Treasures" album.
Jennifer, whose regional credits include Sarah Brown opposite Broadway leading man Tom Wopat in Guys and Dolls, is known for her heartfelt, entertaining and exhilarating shows that highlight her wide vocal range.
Then there is Haley Swindal.
Haley will be playing Mae West on December 3rd at The Triad. I am putting together a group to celebrate both Haley and Mae West. Please let me know if you would like to join our group.

Madelaine Warren: Mad For Romance 12/14
Following a career on the diverse stages of opera, musical comedy, resort hotels, luxury cruises, concerts and worldwide corporate events, Madelaine Warren returns to Don't Tell Mama.

Earlier this month, I was lucky enough to attend the York Theatre Gala honoring Susan Stroman with the Oscar Hammerstein Award.
I did a Facebook Live interviewing several of the attendees. It was great to once again see Pamela Hunt and talk about her upcoming project

Gingold Theatrical Group
is proud to announce the final presentation of the 13th Season of Project Shaw, a special series of evenings offering some of Shaw's greatest works and those who share his fierce 'art as activism' precepts, presented monthly at Leonard Nimoy Peter Norton Symphony Space (2537 Broadway at 95th Street) at The Thalia.
The acclaimed 2018 season will conclude on December 17th with Shaw contemporary Arthur Wing Pinero's The Enchanted Cottage directed by Pamela Hunt. I hope to attend. Will include more info as I receive it. Read More HERE.

Happening Now: Ellen Jaffee's Holiday Gifts Drive.
Drop off your donation of a new, unwrapped toy or book to the McHugh Piermont Library now through December 15th.

Why is Steve Ross smiling?
Because he’s so looking forward to his upcoming appearances at the Birdland Theatre (Monday, Dec. 17th and Tuesday, Dec. 18th).
The title of the show is HERE’S TO US – Festive Songs of Love and Friendship.
Steve is leaving the world of Rue and Regret and focusing on Friendship, Romance and…Encouragement!
The season happily requires some beautiful Christmas melodies – especially a few from his latest CD ‘It’s Almost Christmas Eve
Frederick Chopin and Steve (their first collaboration) composed the melody of the eponymous title song with a charming lyric by Ken Hirsch and Rosie Casey.
Steve is joined in these by fellow-performers on the recording.

You can also buy the CD for immediate delivery (and a little more cheaply) from Naxos Direct: https://naxosdirect.com/items/its-almost-christmas-eve-473531

Do we ever not need songs of hope? At this time of year, and at this point in history, we especially need them. Tom Toce will produce this December 22nd program, featuring some of the best cabaret singers in New York, each performing a hopeful song. If this concert doesn’t provide uplift, nothing will!
There will be performances by Deb A. Berman, Trazana Beverly, Douglas J. Cohen, Cynthia Farrell, Eric Michael Gillett, Julie Gold, Ann Kittredge, Minda Larsen, Sidney Myer, and more being added nearly every day!
Jon Delfin is the music director. Order tix HERE

A Few Audience Testimonials about Richard Skipper Celebrates

Richard and Russ, your show on Sunday, Oct 14, was spectacular. I have enjoyed many a Sunday in your theatrical care, and the two of you understand the point of putting together a show -- it is to ENTERTAIN!!!!!!!! It was on the one hand so well produced and directed that an audience immediately feels taken care of, but then the consummate mastery of Richard's hosting skills to embrace the audience and the moment(s) and harvest such humor and pleasure from the unexpected.  Do I really have to wait until February for another one?  LOVE this series, and so grateful for the laughs and the heart. Thank you.
-Ann Kittredge, Forrest Hills, New York
